On the 12th of November, 1918, at the close of World War I my Mama died as the result of the Spanish flu epidemic at that time. She was only 27 years old, my brother, Daniel who was born April 22, 1913 was 4 ½ years old and I was 14 months. She was buried in the "Odd Fellows Cemetary", 3640 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles, California. Her parents, her husband and her in-laws are buried there too.
My Daddy had the flu too and he was determined he was going to Mama's funeral, he would not listen to Grandma so she called the Doctor and he told Daddy he'd have orphans instead of motherless children, Daddy went back to bed.
I had the flu too and the doctor told my family I'd never pull through. Grandma sat up with me day and night for a week, but with the help of our Heavenly Father my Daddy and I both recovered and when we were able Daddy, Danny and I returned home with Grandpa and Grandma in Sierra Madre, California.
